Ja Morant’s Memphis Grizzlies took on the Minnesota Timberwolves during the first round of last year’s NBA playoffs. In true Patrick Beverley fashion, the former Minnesota Timberwolf player had plenty to say about the Memphis Grizzlies. In response, Ja Morant clapped back with this unforgettable statement: “We ain’t avoiding any challenges. We embrace them head-on.” This exchange led to the creation of the latest colorway of the Nike Ja 1, the Nike Ja Smoke.
Done in a Black/Light Silver-Coconut Milk-Vivid Sulfur color scheme, the Nike Ja 1 features a predominantly Black upper that is constructed out of a breathable mesh and durable leather. The tonal upper is then broken up by the Grey marbling accents on the TPU Swoosh logos, while Ja Morant’s logo is housed on the mismatched tongues and insoles. Other design details include the number “12” embroidered on the heel. A Coconut Milk rubber sole rounds out the main features of the sneaker.
