The Nike Air Force 1 Low “Kay Yow” is a special variation of the silhouette which pays homage to the legendary head coach of North Carolina State’s women’s basketball team – Sandra Kay Yow, who was diagnosed with breast cancer and eventually passed away in 2009.
In 2007, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded to honor Coach Yow’s battle with breast cancer and her persistent spirit lives on. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund creates hope and provides funding for cutting-edge research in the pursuit to cure cancer and offer assistance to underserved women.
For this rendition of AF1, the sneaker’s leather upper dons a white and pink gradient theme to reflect the color fo the Kay Yow ribbon, while detailed with a perforated Swoosh and an offset embroidered pink Swoosh on the sides. Finally, navy accents on the tongue and heel tabs, followed by the insoles featuring unique graphics paying homage to Kay round out the design.
