Air Jordan XXX

Once again designed by the heralded, Tinker Hatfield, who has also designed many of the iconic silhouettes from the lineage, the idea of the sneaker came to fruition in February 2015, when MJ himself requested Hatfield to design the anniversary-marking shoe. Creating a sketch invigorated by the iconic photo of Michael Jordan from the 1988 Dunk Contest, the piece then evolved to a galactic figure known as “Mister Cosmos” which essentially symbolized the athlete’s otherworldly talents.

With the help of fellow designer Mark Smith, the narrative formed the story of the silhouette, and references its timeless lineage with an eye towards the future.

In terms of the sneaker’s aesthetic, the model flaunts a sleek profile. Hatfield emphasized the theme of “less is more” when designing the shoe, as its simplistic upper composition is comprised of a refined mix of woven, knit and printed materials that ensures strength, softness and breathability. The silhouette’s asymmetrical top line is reminiscent of the XII, and formed by a first-of-its-kind knit collar.

Another distinctive element is directed at the heel, which bears an “XXX” graphic to correlate with its respective place in the history of the Jordan lineage as well as emulating a basketball net. In addition, the toe piece utilizes a new printing technique that consists of a dotted process that’s durable and breathable, as it’s all supplemented atop a lightweight and revamped FlightSpeed outsole that offers maximum traction and performance.

Unveiled in its inaugural colorway of White/Wolf Grey-Black, the sneaker is set to debut at select Jordan Brand stockists on February 12 for $200.
